About the Tide Mill of Corroios
Commissioned in 1403 by Santo Condestável Nuno Álvares Pereira, the Tide Mill of Corroios has been meticulously preserved at its original location. Acquired by the Municipality of Seixal in 1980, it was later opened to the public in 1986 as part of the Seixal Municipal Ecomuseum. This historic site is a remarkable example of how tidal energy was harnessed for milling and remains one of the oldest structures of its kind in Europe.
Located in the Corroios salt marsh, part of the National Ecological Reserve, the mill is recognized as a Property of Public Interest under Decree No. 29/1984, issued on June 25, further highlighting its historical and ecological importance.
