SeixalJazz 2025 – CARLOS BICA QUARTETO «11:11»

Portuguese bassist and composer Carlos Bica brings his acclaimed quartet «11:11» to SeixalJazz 2025. The ensemble features alto saxophonist José Soares, vibraphonist Eduardo Cardinho, and guitarist Gonçalo Neto, representing a collaboration between generations of Portuguese jazz musicians.
Bica, recognized as one of Europe’s most innovative jazz artists, has assembled this all-Portuguese quartet after years of international collaborations. Their album “11:11” was named Best Portuguese Jazz Album 2024 by Jazz.pt magazine and received a nomination for the German Record Critics’ Award.

The quartet’s music draws from classical music, jazz, rock, and fado traditions, creating what critics describe as “mysteriously melodic and mesmerizing” compositions. Their approach combines technical precision with deep listening, allowing space for each instrument to contribute to a cohesive ensemble sound.
This performance marks a return to Bica’s Portuguese roots while maintaining his reputation for innovative musical exploration. The drumless quartet format highlights the interplay between bass, saxophone, vibraphone, and guitar in intimate arrangements.
