FreeBlack Lies Matter – Exhibition by Rómulo Santa Rita
The latest exhibition in Seixal, Black Lies Matter, presents the powerful work of Rómulo Santa Rita—an artist with Portuguese, Angolan, and Mozambican heritage, known for his raw and thought-provoking urban interventions.
Born in Lisbon in 1980, Santa Rita has spent years exploring themes of identity, migration, and social justice. His technique, known as Paper Street Art, uses unconventional materials like cardboard, magazines, and stained books to construct layered compositions that challenge political and cultural narratives.
After years of keeping much of his work private, Santa Rita’s art is now gaining wider recognition. This exhibition highlights themes of modern slavery, refugee crises, and the exploitation of African resources, forcing us to reflect on the realities faced by marginalized communities. As the artist reminds us through his work, “We are all responsible for everything in front of everyone.”
Black Lies Matter is more than an exhibition—it is a call for awareness and empathy. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with an urgent and deeply moving body of work.
