SeixalJazz 2025 – TYN WYBENGA BRAINTEASER ENSEMBLE

Dutch composer and conductor Tyn Wybenga brings his innovative Brainteaser Ensemble to SeixalJazz 2025. Known as a specialist at the intersection of modern classical, jazz, and electronics, Wybenga has been dubbed the “future-jazz-conductor of today” by Dutch newspaper NRC.
The Brainteaser Ensemble operates through Wybenga’s unique compositional method: recording live improvisations from his ensemble members, then cutting and pasting samples to create new compositions. This “orchestra of bandleaders” features some of Amsterdam’s finest young musicians, creating what critics describe as “a typical Amsterdam sound.”

Wybenga’s music combines elements of hip-hop, classical music, and jazz with influences from South African, Turkish, and Indian styles. His debut album “Brainteaser” won the 2022 German Jazz Prize for Best International Debut Album, establishing the ensemble’s international reputation.

The 13-piece ensemble includes saxophonist Kika Sprangers, guitarist Teis Semey, and drummer Jamie Peet, among other notable musicians. Together they create adventurous sound sculptures that blur traditional genre boundaries.

Having collaborated with artists like Ambrose Akinmusire and the Metropole Orkest, Wybenga represents a new generation of composers pushing musical boundaries through innovative approaches to composition and performance.
